I AM BRILLIANT began with a single question asked in community rooms, and grew into a facilitation practice built around it.
WHY THIS WORK
Most people are never asked what makes them brilliant. They are asked what they do, what they are responsible for, and what they are behind on. The question sounds simple until someone actually has to answer it, and then it turns out to be one of the harder ones.
Brilliance is not always loud.
Some gifts show up in the way people listen, lead, solve problems, tell the truth, recover from difficulty, create connection, and imagine what comes next. Those strengths rarely appear in a performance review. They show up in how a team actually functions when the pressure is on.
Our mission is to connect the threads that weave through communities: to provide people access, honor experiences, and institute better practices for sustainable partnerships. That is the three-act framework, and it is also the reason the work exists.

Shemekka is an activist, community researcher, best-selling author, consultant, and speaker whose work advances well-being and equity on a foundation of racial justice. She founded Black Girl Magic Market, which celebrates and supports Black women entrepreneurs, and co-founded I AM BRILLIANT, PLE Leaders, and the CROWN Campaign — initiatives built on the belief that people with lived experience should be the ones telling their own stories and advocating for change. She has been featured in the New York Times Magazine 2021 Money Issue and has received several awards for her work.
